1. What We Collect
When you take the CoupleScan test, we collect:
- Names (or nicknames) of both partners — used only to personalize your report.
- Ages and how long you have been together — used only as context for the analysis.
- Test answers — used to generate your compatibility report.
- Your IP address — used only to limit how many reports one visitor can generate per hour, so the service cannot be run up as a bill by a script. It is stored as a counter for one hour and is never linked to your report or your answers.
- Basic usage data — which pages are visited, and general device and location information, through Google Analytics. Only if you accept analytics cookies; see "Cookies" below.
- Payment information — processed entirely by Paddle (paddle.com). We never see or store your credit card details.
We do not ask for your email address. There are no user accounts, we cannot email you, and the only address involved in a purchase is the one you give Paddle for your receipt — we never see it.
2. How We Use Your Data
- To generate your free and paid compatibility reports.
- To store your report so you can access it later.
- To process your payment (via Paddle).
- We do NOT use your answers to train AI models.
- We do NOT sell your personal data to third parties.
- We do NOT send marketing emails — we have no address to send them to.
3. AI Processing
Your answers are sent to an AI service (Anthropic Claude) to generate your report. The names (or nicknames) you enter are sent along with them, because the report addresses you both by name, as are your ages and how long you have been together. Anthropic does not store or train on this data per their data usage policy.
4. Data Storage
Your report and answers are stored so you can come back to your report from its link. Storage is a hosted database run by Upstash (upstash.com); the record is set to delete itself automatically 24 hours after you take the test. There are no user accounts — a report is reachable only by its unique link, and after those 24 hours the link stops working, so save anything you want to keep.
5. Data Deletion
Your answers and report are deleted automatically 24 hours after the test, so in most cases there is nothing left to delete. If you want them removed sooner, email support@couplescan.com with your report link.
6. Cookies
There are two kinds on this site, and only one of them is your choice.
Essential — always on, because the test cannot work without them.
- Your answers, kept in your own browser's session storage while you take the test. They stay on your device and your browser clears them when you close the tab. This is what lets you move between questions without losing what you have already answered.
- Paddle's cookies, set when you open the checkout. Paddle uses them to run the payment and to spot fraudulent purchases. They are set only if you actually open the checkout, and only Paddle can read them — see Paddle's privacy policy, linked below.
- Your cookie choice itself, stored in your browser so we do not ask again on every page. It is a key in your browser's local storage rather than a cookie, and it holds one word: accepted or declined.
Analytics — only if you accept.
We use Google Analytics, which sets two cookies — one named _ga and one whose name starts with _ga_ and ends with our Analytics property id. They give a returning browser the same random identifier, so one person reading four pages is not counted as four people. Google expires them two years after your last visit.
What we do with that: count how many people arrive, see which pages get read and which get skipped, and find where people leave. A test nobody finishes and a page everyone closes look the same in a total visit count and completely different here, and that is the whole reason we collect it — to know what to fix next.
What it never gets: your answers, your report, your names, or anything else you type into the test. Google receives page addresses, plus general device and approximate location information from the request itself. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not run ads, and we do not sell anything to anyone.
Nothing analytics-related loads until you say yes. The first time you visit, a dialog asks. Until you answer, no analytics script is fetched and no analytics cookie exists; if you decline, none ever is. The test, the report and the price are identical either way — declining costs you nothing.
Changing your mind: choose "Cookies" at the bottom of any page and the dialog comes back. If you had accepted and now decline, we delete the two Google Analytics cookies from your browser and reload the page without the analytics script, so it stops there and then. Nothing you have to clear by hand — though clearing this site's data from your browser settings removes everything either way, including the record of your choice.
7. Third-Party Services
- Paddle (paddle.com) — payment processing. See Paddle's privacy policy at paddle.com/legal/privacy.
- Anthropic (anthropic.com) — AI report generation.
- Upstash (upstash.com) — the database your report and answers are stored in for 24 hours.
- Vercel (vercel.com) — website hosting.
- Google Analytics (policies.google.com/privacy) — how many people visit the site and which pages they use. It receives page addresses and general device and location information; it does not receive your answers, your report, or your names.
8. Children
CoupleScan is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
